Vacation/Holiday and MRes Application Deadline

Its that time of year again when we take the slightly unnatural step of heading out of the city. We are going to be offline for 10 days and taking a break from the office, the blog and all things digital and urban.

To be honest, going 'offline' is going to be tricky but due to a lack of network coverage at our destination its going to have to be cold turkey away from the blog and connectivity in general.

In the meantime, we have over 1600 posts so feel free to click around and of course there is always the MRes in Advanced Spatial Analysis and Visualisation to apply for - depending on University rules its looking like you have a week left for 2010 entry.

We will be back August 2nd....

Tweaking the Blog

As you may of noticed the blog has over gone a few changes, mainly minor but still the odd tweak here and there.

This is as we gear up for the MRes Course and introduce some new features to take the blog onwards. As ever if you want the latest updates on all things digital and urban you can also follow us on twitter.

As an update the 'retweet' buttons are now working but only in 'compact' style. The old style will be back soon as we have sorted out the issues.

Normal Service Resumes Next Tuesday...

A quick post as we are taking some time out to move flats here in London town. The bad news is that this means we are without internet access for a few days so posts will be limited to say the least.

The good news is that the new place is in a perfect position for some tilt-shift timelapses so a tutorial will be forthcoming along with thoughts and techniques for urban HDR.

We are back at du headquarters early next week when a normal, perhaps slightly enhanced, service will resume...

Digital Urban Goes Wide

We have made a few edits to the layout of the blog to allow for HD movies here at digital urban. We have increased the width by 20% allowing larger movies while at the same time cutting out the clutter of the previous dual sidebars.

This allows us to embed movies such as the 'Physics and Bouncing Balls in the City' (see the tutorial here to make your own) - click HD once playing to full the movie in higher definition:

Blog Look/Layout Time for a Revamp (?)

Our partner blog 'World Worst Urban' suffered a minor setback this morning when we accidentally clicked 'update template' without any sort of back up.

As such our morning has been spent getting at least a temporary version back up and running - and with it comes a new look - the header and logo is yet to be decided so any thoughts are welcome. The current one is merely temporary.

Which got us thinking, digital urban is over due a similar revamp, we kind of like the layout on Worlds Worst Urban and are thinking about porting it over - such as the location of the recent comments etc. Any thoughts on a revamp of digital urban really are most welcome....

Btw - various comments around the web seem to of got the wrong idea on the Worlds Worst Urban Places and Spaces book - its a 'tongue in cheek' look at the worlds urban planning and architectural disasters. Its not a negative view of the world by any means, in many ways its a celebration of what is a bit grim in our urban environment - maybe its a London thing to appreciate the urban space around us that is slightly rubbish?
